Sanganai/Hlanganani 2019 takes off on a high note

By Thomas Mupfuka

Harare – The 12th Edition of Sanganai/Hlanganani World Tourism Expo which opened on Thursday, took off to a good start in terms of attendance and stature, the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority( ZTA) has said.

According to the authority’s acting chief executive officer Givemore Chidzidzi, the expo is coming on the back of two high profile funerals one for former President Robert Gabriel Mugabe and the other for Major General Trust Mugoba.

“Despite all these setbacks the expo has managed to attract 190 international buyers and 240 exhibitors from across the globe which shows a potential of further growth and revenue increase in the coming years,” Chidzidzi expressed.

“A good number of people thought it would not go ahead since we lost two high profile people including the founding father former President Mugabe.

“We’re delighted that the numbers which we projected and planned have come to fruition, Sanganai/Hlanganani is here with the same number of international buyers and media as promised,” Mr. Chidzidzi.

He also hailed the success of speed networking, an enabling platform whereby international buyers meet with sellers on a one-on-one basis.
Meanwhile, Tourism Business Council of Zimbabwe Chief Executive, Mr. Paul Matamisa, hailed ZTA for successfully hosting the tourism expo.

“There is a lot of input and effort from both the industry and the ZTA.

“In terms of décor and stand designs, we have seen an improvement,” said Matamisa.

“Another encouraging thing is that we got a good number of buyers carefully selected by both the ZTA and the industry. All that is indicative of a good start of the expo and everyone is confident that they brought the best buyers to drive forward the industry,” he added.

The success of the annual Expo also comes on the back of recently signed partnership between the national flag carrier Air Zimbabwe and the ZTA for Sanganai/Hlanganani World Tourism Expo 2019 as the official domestic carrier whilst Ethiopian Airlines will serve as its international carrier following the signing of a similar MOU.
